We all have been dreaming of acing any exams that we take and this has been instilled in us since our elementary years. This has been carried on until we reached university. This is because; it has already been human nature to be competitive. Being competitive at a young age has its pros and cons. We are all aware of our capabilities and attitudes and we know our limits as well. This article will help you identify the pros and cons of being competitive.
We all know that highly competitive people will never give up unless they have reached their desired goals or outcomes. They do not really give up easily on things that they want to achieve. If they have failed in one thing, their instinct is to look for ways and means to be able to achieve that goal. Let us say for example, we have a highly competitive parent in school who really want their kids to excel in all areas of their subjects. If they have noticed that their kid’s grade fell short of their expectation like Math, their first course of action is of course enroll their kid in a math tuition. This is because these highly competitive parents are aware that their kid will definitely excel in this particular subject especially if the priority subject in their country is math like in Singapore, enrolling their kids in a maths tuition would definitely help their kids achieve excellent grades. Most of these parents in Singapore believe that enrolling their kids in a math tuition could also help boost the confidence of their kids in this particular subject since they know that there are only a few people in this world who love this subject. Since we are still talking about highly competitive people, they say that these people also love to compete with themselves and not with others which is actually a very good thing about being competitive. Their thinking is to always be a better version of themselves than they were yesterday. Having this type of attitude among competitive people is very healthy when it comes to competition because they could not care less about the performance of the others. They only have themselves to think about. This type of thinking can also lead competitive people to great success because they really do not give up easily despite any obstacles that would come their way. Being competitive also has its disadvantages; most people would think that they are self- absorbed because they only think of themselves. This can be true especially if that person really only thinks of themselves all the time without any consideration about how others think. What can be worse is that they think highly of themselves. They sometimes do not listen to what others think and they have this tendency not to consider others suggestions. This is brought about by their desire to achieve their goals even if it at the expense of other people. The best way to avoid this negative trait among highly competitive people is for them to strike a balance between achieving their goals and at the same time not sacrificing others opinion.
